NutriKin privacy policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026
NutriKin ("the app") is operated by Satya Sundar Kumar Bandiguptapu. Contact: bssundarkumar@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Family profile you enter: member names, and optionally age, sex, height, weight, health conditions (including pregnancy), allergies and nutrition goals. This is health-related information.
- Daily tracking (optional): the food you log for each family member, with its calories and nutrients, and any workouts you log (activity, minutes, effort and estimated calories burned).
- Medications (optional): the medicine names, doses, times and days you enter for a family member, and which doses you mark as taken or skipped. NutriKin records what you type. It does not give medical advice or check doses. Reminders are notifications created on your own iPhone.
- Grocery list: the items your family adds to its shared shopping list.
- Scan history: the products you scan (barcode, name, brand) and the score each family member received.
- Apple Health (optional): if you connect it, the app reads weight, blood glucose, blood pressure, calories, steps, active calories, exercise minutes and workouts on your device. This data stays on your device and is never written back to Health. If you choose to add a workout from Health to your family's log, that workout's type, time, length and calories are saved to your family's log.
- Camera and photos: used on your device to read barcodes and labels. These images are processed on the device and are not uploaded.
- Free daily plate scans (optional, no setup): if you haven't linked your own AI key, NutriKin gives your family a few free AI plate-photo estimates each day, on NutriKin's own key. For this one feature only, your plate photo passes through NutriKin's own server on its way to the AI provider (Google Gemini), and NutriKin's server records how many free scans your family has used that day, nothing more. Past the daily limit, or if you'd rather not use this, plate scanning falls back to reading the plate on your own iPhone or asking you to link your own key, as described below. This is the only NutriKin feature where a photo passes through NutriKin's own server.
- AI features (optional): on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, the chat and meal ideas run entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device model, and nothing is sent anywhere. If you link your own AI account (an API key for Claude by Anthropic, OpenAI, Grok by xAI, or Gemini by Google), you can also scan a plate, have a product label read from your photos, and get AI-suggested alternatives, and you can choose to use that AI for chat and meal ideas. When you use one of those, your photo or question is sent directly from your iPhone to that company, under your own account, together with the family details needed to answer (member names, ages, height and weight, conditions, allergies and goals that you entered). NutriKin's servers never receive these requests or your key. The key is kept only in your iPhone's secure Keychain and is removed when you disconnect, sign out or delete your account. That company's handling of the data is described in its own privacy policy. Free tiers of some AI services may use submitted data to improve their products, so check the terms of the service you link. Do not include other people or documents in photos. The short cheer after a workout, the daily food tip and the workout idea work the same way: they are made only when the app is set up with AI (on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence, or through your own account), and they use that day's food totals, the workout you logged, your activity goals and the person's details as above. Tips and ideas are created only when you tap the button. They are general ideas, not medical advice.
- Strength workouts and activity goals (optional): the exercises, sets, repetitions and weights you enter for a workout, and the daily step and weekly workout goals you set for a family member. They are stored with your family's data like other workouts and goals.
- Children and older adults (optional): daily active-play minutes and star charts for children, height and weight readings with dates for anyone you choose to track, and a weekly activity schedule with local reminders. Optional AI notes (a weekly summary for parents, snack ideas, or a weekly note for the family of an older adult) are made only when you tap the button and use the same AI handling described above.
- Gym buddies (optional): adults (18 or over) can join a buddy group of up to 20 people, in any family. Buddies in a group can see only that person's workouts: the type, time, effort, any note, and strength exercises with sets, repetitions and weights, plus the first name you use in NutriKin. They cannot see your food, medicines, weight, Apple Health data or anyone else in your family. Children's activity is never shared. You can leave a group at any time, which removes access straight away, and deleting your account removes you from all groups.
- Who can change what: everyone in a family can see each person's medicines and whether doses were taken. Only that person (once they choose "This is me"), or a parent for someone marked as managed by a parent, can change them. Your account is linked to the person you choose.
How we use it
Only to run the app: to sign you in, share your family's profiles between the family's phones, calculate scores and show your history. We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not track you across other apps or websites.
Where it is stored and who else sees it
- Account and family data is stored with our backend provider, Supabase, protected by access rules so that only members of your family can read it.
- To find product information, the app sends the barcode or product name you searched for to Open Food Facts (a public database). No account information is sent.
- Other people in your family, whom you invite with a code, can see the family's members and scan history.
Your choices
- Delete your account: in the app go to Family, Account, Delete account. This permanently removes your login, and the family's members and scan history if you are its only member.
- Edit or remove any family member or scan at any time inside the app.
- Access to your data or questions: email us at the address above.
Not medical advice
NutriKin provides general information only and is not a medical device. Product data can be incomplete or wrong; always check the package label, especially for allergies.
Children
The app is intended for adults, who may add children as family members. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date.
